Studies and perspectives of edible ectomycorrhizal fungi in Brazil

Vabljeni na predavanje z naslovom: Studies and perspectives of edible ectomycorrhizal fungi in Brazil, ki bo v torek, 28.5.2019 ob 12.00 v veliki dvorani na Gozdarskem inštitutu Slovenije.

The diversity and distribution of ectomycorrhizal fungi are unknown in Brazil, especially edible mushrooms. Recently, a new specie of Tuber was found associated with Carya illinoinensis (Wangenh.) K. Koch, in Southern Brazil. The first record of true truffles occurring in Brazil proves the possibility to cultivate pecan with truffles and stimulates novelty studies in this area. Therefore, my thesis project aims to respond (1) if European truffles can establish a symbiotic relationship with pecan in Neotropical conditions, and improve the growth of different varieties of pecan seedlings; (2) if truffles can establish a symbiotic relationship with Brazilian native forest species and exotic species; and finally (3) to investigate the distribution and diversity of ectomycorrhizal fungi in pecan orchards. The opportunity to visit the Slovenian Forestry Institute, funding by the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO) and the European Forest Institute (EFI), it will contribute on knowledge about the potential and challenges of edible ectomycorrhizal fungi in Brazil.
